6 Good Reasons to Consider a Waterfront Apartment

Posted on: 3 January 2017

Most people choose an apartment on the water for the spectacular view, of the ocean, lake or river. Water views are relaxing, lovely and serene. However, being able to watch the sun rise (or set) over the water directly from your bedroom or living room is just one of many good reasons to consider leasing a waterfront apartment.

1. Dramatic views. There's no denying that a water view is mesmerizing, lovely and relaxing.

2. Someone to handle maintenance. Arguably, one of the best reasons to rent rather than purchase a home is that when you rent, someone else is responsible for maintenance. This is especially true near the water, where coastal winds and erosion can cause paint to peel and landscaping to need replacing.

3. Reliable neighborhoods. Waterfront neighborhoods tend to stay reliable and safe, even when areas around them decline. Even if you stay in your apartment for a decade or more, you're less likely to have to worry about safety in a waterfront neighborhood. Where other areas are subject to economic ebbs and flows, waterfront areas tend to remain desirable.

4. Easy access to recreational activities. In addition to having pools and work-out rooms, waterfront apartments often have private beach access and opportunities for water sports like kayaking, windsurfing and snorkeling as well as fishing and sunbathing. Many waterfront areas also have walking and jogging trails along the shoreline.

5. Clean air. Ocean and lake breezes blow the pollutants and allergens inland, leaving the air around a waterfront apartment fresher and easier to breathe and that around downtown living spaces. This makes a waterfront apartment a good choice for those with chronic allergies or breathing disorders like COPD and asthma.

6. Friends and family will want to visit. When you live on or near the water, your friends and family will likely view your apartment as a resort hotel and want to come visit you frequently. This can save you money that you'd otherwise spend to visit them as well as help you easily stay in touch and spend quality time with those you love.

While a waterfront apartment may not be the right choice for everyone looking for a new address, leasing a home on the water provides calming, scenic views; is most lively to be located in a safe, reliable neighborhood and provides you with someone else to handle the extra maintenance required when you live by the water.
